Stamp Collecting, a dying hobby or investment opportunity?

Collecting stamps has been a hobby of millions of people around the world for many years.  However, with the introduction of email and SMS and other faster ways of communicating, ordinary (or snail mail) is slowing down quickly and therefore the usage of stamps is also reducing quickly.  And when there are large distributions (like banks sending statements or phone companies sending bills), then automated franking is used, once again eliminating the usage of stamps.  So what does that do for the hobby of stamp collectors and what does that do to the stamp collections that have been accumulating in all those stamp albums?  And what does that do for the enthusiasm of the existing stamp collectors – when fewer stamps are needed?  This simply means that there are fewer stamps to collect.

However, that may introduce other opportunitues.  If stamp collecting is motivated for their investment value – then the future should be bright – less stamps in circulation means that eventually they will become rare, which over time should mean that they increase in value.

This website has been set up to share information about regular stamps, rare stamps, unusual stamps, first day covers and so on.  Will they keep value, where can you find them or buy them, and so on.  We do believe that in years to come there will be fewer stamp collectors  and therefore the hobby will also become less popular.  We are investigating what that will mean for those who have collected or bought many stamps.   And in particular we will share information about investing in stamps allowing you to make up your mind if this is a worthwhile exercise or hobby.

As we explore this topic – we will share our experiences – so please continue to visit this site for regular updates.
